Much the same as most jurisdictions,
Newfoundland and Labrador has a two week bowhunting season
prior to rifle season. During this period it is illegal to
hunt with a rifle.
Big game hunting regulations
in Newfoundland and Labrador requires hunters to use a minimum
of 243 caliber rifle. However many hunters and hunting guides
believe that a minimum of 270 caliber should be used especially
moose hunting. Most common rifles used in Newfoundland and
Labrador for most big game hunting are 270, 308, 30-06,
7mm, and 300.(not neccessarily in that order). A minimum
of 150 grain bullet is also recomended.
For bow hunting a minimum
of 45 lb draw weight is required for big game hunting in
Newfoundland and Labrador.
