There are outfitters in Newfoundland
and Labrador that has been in business for many years and
others that are fairly new in the hunting, fishing and adventure
tours business. But all have gained utmost respect from
their guest for the services they provide and hunting and
fishing opportunities available at their hunting or fishing
lodges.
In 1998 the Government of
Newfoundland and Labrador lifted the moratorium on new outfitters
entering the business in the province. As a result twelve
(12) new outfitters joined the already well established
outfitting industry in Newfoundland. The establishment of
these new outfitters, to a large degree, has increased the
diversity of the industry and opened up areas that was previously
inaccessible causing an increase in the number of trophies
harvested. Hence, the province has once again become one
of the world's best destinations for hunting and sportsfishing.
In addition, there has been a major increase in outfitters
offering eco-tours, snowmobile tours, and aviation tours.
Prior to 1998 there were approximately seventy (70) outfitters
on the island of Newfoundland and a dozen more in Labrador.
Some of these outfitters have been offering the service
to non-resident sportsmen since the early 1950's. Over the
years, these outfitters has gained a reputation for a level
of service comparable to any place on the globe. Many changes
has taken place over the years in the Newfoundland and Labrador
outfitting industry and there are outfitters here that has
seen.... and experienced it all.
