Black bear hunting in Newfoundland,
you won't find the highest success rates found
anywhere. However you will find
some of the largest black bears on earth. According to wildlife
biologist, black bears here have been weight in at 840 kg.
Trophy bears, although not plentiful here, are found generally
in the most remote areas.
Because Labrador has such
a large wilderness and very low hunting pressure, black
bear seems to be more plentiful than on the island. They
tend to be most attracted to outfitters lodges where they
can find a supply of fresh caribou carcasses to feast on.
There are very few outfitters
that specialize in black bear hunting in Newfoundland or
Labrador. Most Newfoundland outfitters offer it as an add-on
to a moose or woodland caribou hunt. While in Labrador black
bear hunting is in conjunction with barren ground caribou
or sport fishing in season.
Generally a black bear hunt
in combination with another sporty package is very inexpensive.
Some outfitters offer black bear hunt at rates to cover
the license fees.
