Gander River
Tours provides salmon fishing from late June to mid August with a fall
hook and release program for Atlantic
Salmon. The autumn colors of the mixed hardwood forest fascinates most
nature-lovers as they engage in some of Newfoundland's best Sportfishing.
There is a high run of Atlantic Salmon over the last few years. The average
run on a low year is 15,000 while the run can exceed 24,000 on a good
year. There are average size salmon of 4 to 7 pounds with many being hooked
and released 10 pounds and over. Our guide will place you directly over
a pool and you may fish from the boat. The waters are easily accessed
for both the young and old, experienced and non-experienced. The lodge
is located ten miles down the scenic Gander River, also Gander International
Airport is just a short drive from our departure points. Our professional
fishing and hunting guides will accompany you through a run of tranquil
steadies, white water shoots, and beautiful scenery which entails a natural
wilderness wonder. Our luxurious accommodations will make your stay even
more rewarding as you take part in a hunting and/or fishing excursion
of a lifetime.
Gander River Tours
also offers spring baited
bear hunt groups of three to four per hunt. The success rate is averaging
50%. In the fall we offer moose-bear hunting combinations. Our success
rate for moose hunting has consistently averaged 90%. We were one of the
first outfitters in Newfoundland to specialize in Black Bear hunts. Hunting
the Gander River area of Newfoundland can go from easy physical hunt to
a more vigorous hunt depending on your physical conditions or limitations.
We have outpost camps for one or two night stays which are only accessible
by air.

Our company
offers a quality hunting and fishing experience from our licensed
camp on the lower Gander River. Angling has been very good and stock counts
have shown that our salmon population has increased to annual runs averaging
25,000 fish since 1992. The outlook for the next season is excellent and
we have had a multi-year salmon plan announced which will allow us a bag
limit of up to 6 fish. This has made the Gander River an attractive fishing
destination for anglers from across North America and as far away as Australia
and South Africa. We are listed in the latest Sports Afield "North America's
Greatest Fishing Lodges" on page 277 and have also just been listed in
the Fly Fishing, the Big Game Hunting and the Freshwater Angling editions
of "Picked-by-You Guides". These listings were earned through client surveys
and cannot be purchased.
Hunting has
also been very good and stock counts on Eastern Moose
and Black Bear have shown that our big game population has increased.
The big game counts are up all over North Eastern Newfoundland and have
resulted in an excellent outlook for the next hunting season. Many of
our guests have become repeat visitors to our camp. The camp has a capacity
of 12 rods for fishing or up to 6 hunters and is reached by riverboat
from Gander Bay. We provide ground transportation to and from the
Gander Airport for clients who arrive by air and for those clients who
chose to drive, we will provide detailed instructions on where to meet
us.
